Surprise Community Youth Leadership Summit for teens is Jan. 10.

The one-day leadership program will be from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at Willow Canyon High School. The summit will feature a guest speaker as well interactive and educational breakout sessions geared toward career opportunities and job skills for after high school.

Attendance to the summit is required for individuals to be considered for the first Surprise Community Youth Leadership Program. The program will consist of four consecutive educational sessions that will meet Saturdays beginning Jan. 24. The participants will be divided into small groups, who will be teamed with a mentor to take part in a community project competition. Projects may include creating a community visual art competition/exhibition, organize a block party or carnival, work with communications to develop and execute a program to sell school-branded apparel and items. The program will run through the spring semester and will culminate in a group presentation and awards ceremony in May.
