Valley Metro fare increase begins July 1

June 1, 2009 - 9:29 AM

Valley Metro fares will increase beginning July 1, but riders can save money by purchasing passes in advance and not onboard transit vehicles.

Surprise Dial-A-Ride fares are not scheduled to increase for those riders who connect to Valley Metro's Route 106 at 111th and Grand avenues. However, the all-day pass will increase to $5.25, from $2.50, when purchased on the transit vehicle.

For riders catching the 571 and 572 Express bus routes, a one-day pass will cost $7.25 if purchased on the bus and will be $5.50 if purchased through other sources.

Following are Wickenburg Route 660 fares (each way) starting July 1:

                  Wickenburg             Surprise               Glendale

Wickenburg     --------                       $4                      $4

Surprise          $4                         --------                     $2

Glendale          $4                           $2                      --------

Valley Metro passes can be purchased online at www.valleymetro.org or at many outlets, including Fry's Food and Food City stores and at APS locations. Visit the Valley Metro Web site for a complete listing of where transit passes may be purchased at a discount to onboard purchases.

With riders purchasing passes in advance in an effort to save money, Valley Metro believes the boarding process will become more efficient.
