The Colonnade closes gap on Northern Trust

The Colonnade remained in the Sun City Grand summer title chase with a 17-12 win over league-leading Northern Trust Monday at Field of Dreams in Surprise.

The victory moved The Colonnade two games behind Northern Trust with less than two weeks left in the season.

Each team has three games left in the regular-season schedule. There are no head-to-head meetings between the two teams.

Northern Trust won two of three meetings between the teams this season. Both Northern Trust victories were one-run decisions.

Mike Hirsh had four hits with a pair of triples and 4 RBI in The Colonnade win. Rick Clot went 3-for-4 with a homer, triple and 4 RBI while Norb Lewandowski, Gene Prosser and winning pitcher Joe Carucci each had three hits for The Colonnade.

Jake Groh and Jim Young each went 3-for-4 for Northern Trust. Steve Katz had two hits and played stellar defense in the left-center field in the loss.

The Colonnade will try to gain more ground on Wednesday when it plays host to 365 Self Storage in a 7 a.m. game at Field of Dreams.

Northern Trust has a bye on Wednesday.

DESIGNS BY DON 7

Dick Stuckey continued his torrid hitting as Smiles of Beauty won its second straight game.

Stuckey went 4-for-4 with a double in the win and has nine hits in his last nine at-bats.

Sub John Shuba had three hits with a triple and sub Al Trentini added three hits for Smiles of Beauty, which won the game in six innings via the 10-run mercy rule.

Norb Lewandowski, Lyle Gordon, Joey Rizzuto, Bill Hickman and Phil Guido each had two hits in the win.

Don Nelson had three hits with a pair of doubles and scored three runs for Designs by Don.

Buck Craig had two hits with a double and scored three runs while Gary Jotzke went 3-for-3 in the loss.

Marlin Campbell drove in two runs with a pair of sacrifice flies for Designs by Don.

IN-LINE CHIROPRACTIC 18

Dave Baer, Gene Fleck and Dick Roberts each went 4-for-4 as In-Line Chiropractic won the game in six innings via the 10-run mercy rule.

Larry Doukas had three hits and sub Tony Cuda made all the defensive plays in left field in the win.

Sam Johnson, Dohrman Sinclair, Harold Barrish and Don Trenda each had two hits for Char Wheeler.
