D’backs organist bids musical adieu to Forum fans
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Scores of fans applauded Arizona Diamondbacks organist Bobby Freeman when he swung by The Forum at Desert Harbor to perform Aug. 13.
His concerts have been popular with seniors, however, the entertainer's busy schedule prompted the announcement that he would be bowing out of performing the retirement community circuit.
A crowd of more than 100 residents from The Forum attended the "Farewell Concert with Bobby Freeman" at the Peoria retirement community.
Rounding out his 11th season with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Freeman intends to continue performing at Chase Field and making charitable visits as a representative of Diamondbacks Charities. He also is gearing up for the launch of Bobby Freeman's Rock City Diner in Surprise this fall.
During the "Farewell Concert with Bobby Freeman" he reminisced, "Let's start with some of my favorite songs over the past 20 years in Peoria, Glendale and Sun City." His all-time favorite tune, Glenn Miller's "In the Mood," led the musical lineup.
Freeman kept the seniors swinging to such audience requests as "Satin Doll," "Somewhere My Love," "Mack the Knife" and "Stardust."
As he played the intro to "New York, New York" on his Yamaha Tyros2 keyboards, Freeman recalled, "I've played this a zillion times." For his finale, he played "Take Me Out to the Ball Game."
