A domestic disturbance on Wednesday sent one man to the hospital after he was struck with a baseball bat.

At about 2:14 p.m., Surprise police responded to a home in the 14500 block of West Crocus Drive of Surprise where they were told there was a fight.

Officers said a 45-year-old female resident had been having ongoing domestic problems with her husband.

The resident was at her home with a female friend, and her friend's boyfriend, Christopher Watson, 28, of Surprise.

Police said the resident's husband, Vincent Renteria, 45, of Surprise arrived at the home, and a fight began when Watson confronted him. During the altercation, Watson struck Renteria on the head with a baseball bat, police said.

Renteria was airlifted to St. Joseph's hospital in Phoenix and Watson was transported to Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center in Sun City West for injuries he received during the altercation.

Watson was later released from the hospital and booked into the Maricopa County Jail and charged with aggravated assault, police said.

Police said Renteria may face charges as a result of the altercation. The incident is under investigation.
