Sun Citians Charlene Jennings, 63, Sheryl Simpson, 62, Gloria Postgate, 65, and Bernard Wylie, 66, members of All That Jazz aerobics dance group, share a laugh during practice in the aerobics room at Bell Recreation Center.

Charlene Jennings has exercised with the All That Jazz aerobics dance class every week at Fairway Recreation Center for the last few years.

All That Jazz moved its Tuesday sessions to Bell Recreation Center after the Recreation Centers of Sun City closed several areas of the facility in preparation for the phase 1 demolition of Fairway, at 107th and Peoria avenues.

It was closer for Jennings to exercise at Fairway, but she still attends classes at Bell, even though "we don't have a wooden floor."

"Sometimes it's hard to move on a carpet, but you really do the best that you can," Jennings said.

The aerobics group and Fairway-based clubs relocated to other recreation centers with the closure of the Arizona Room, the billiards and music rooms, the auditorium, library, pool and spa.

Tim Gallen, spokesman for RCSC, said officials are in the process of decommissioning the buildings for phase 1 of the project.

"We had the buildings inspected for asbestos recently and are in the process of getting reviews performed by the fire department and the county," he said. "We're still hammering out stuff for when construction actually begins."

Several clubs will still meet at Fairway as renovations get under way, including ceramics & porcelain, model railroad, knitters club and the computer club, which will move after phase 1 is finished.

Other clubs already relocated to Bell, Lakeview, Mountain View and Oakmont. They'll also meet at Sundial when it reopens.

Penina Spinka, secretary and treasurer of All That Jazz, said they'll move to Sundial to accommodate more space for members to move as they do aerobic exercises.

Spinka said All That Jazz usually meets twice a week, once at Bell and once at Fairway, but went strictly to one location after their dance facility closed. Some members were close to Fairway, while others lived at the opposite end of Sun City.

"It might be a little incovenient now, but the benefits will be so much better in the end," she said. "We can't wait until it reopens again because it's going to be a better place for us."
