Stained glass crafter makes mark in SCW

Sun City West Stained Glass Crafters has announced Sachiko Evanson as its Artist of the Month for November.

Evanson has been a member of the club since May 1996 after she noticed beautifully crafted miniature houses in the display window at Palm Ridge Recreation Center. Having done a stained glass piece, Evanson thought she would benefit from professional lessons and signed up. It was after those lessons she began making award-winning pieces for the next eight years.

Growing up in Japan, Evanson worked for an American engineering company, where she met her husband. The two traveled extensively for his job, which brought them to Sun City West, where they chose to make their retirement home. Every two or three years, she returns to Japan to visit. Many of her award-winning pieces are with her Japanese relatives.

Evanson shares her gift with others in the club as an instructor. She also helps dress the display window, has served as assistant treasurer, volunteers at the annual craft fairs in Sun City West, finds time to play golf several days a week and enjoys playing Mah-jongg and bridge.

The public is welcome to view many of Evanson’s award-winning pieces that will be on display at Palm Ridge Recreation Center, 13800 W. Deer Valley Drive.
