Comments 0 | Recommend 0One hundred twenty-eight The UPS Store locations in Phoenix raised more than $21,000 for the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation as part of a nationwide “60 Days of Giving” campaign.
Since 2005, The UPS Store and Mail Boxes Etc. network has raised more than $1.3 million for the cause. The money raised locally will benefit children in Phoenix and the surrounding area.
From Oct. 26 through Dec. 24, participating The UPS Store locations offered customers the opportunity to purchase Toys for Tots donation cards for $1 each, with 100 percent of proceeds supporting local Toys for Tots efforts.

The Surprise McDonald’s restaurant at 13933 N. Litchfield Road will kick off a McTeacher’s Night fund-raiser challenge that will run throughout February and is expected to raise thousands of dollars for Surprise elementary schools.
The McTeacher’s Night Challenge begins Tuesday with 10 fund-raising events from 5 to 7 p.m. each day. The event dates and participating schools include: Feb. 5, Thompson Ranch Elementary School; Feb. 6, Ashton Ranch Elementary School; Feb. 7, Cimarron Springs Elementary School; Feb. 11, Kingswood Elementary School; Feb. 20, Surprise Elementary; Feb. 21, West Point Elementary; Feb. 25, Rancho Gabriela Elementary; Feb. 26, El Mirage Elementary School; Feb. 27, Parkview Elementary; and Feb. 28, Dysart Elementary.
The elementary school that raises the most money will receive an additional $1,000 donation from McDonald’s owners Don and Dorothy Mellon.
As part of each McTeacher’s Night fund-raiser, a portion of McDonald’s sales from 5 to 7 p.m. will benefit each school. Each school’s principal and up to 10 teachers will “work” at McDonald’s, greeting customers and working the registers.
Families of students and local school supporters are encouraged to visit McDonald’s and tip their teachers to help raise funds.

Deborah Roberts is Banner Thunderbird Medical Center’s new director of perioperative services.
She will have responsibility for surgery, pre-admission teaching and testing, pre-op, post-anesthesia care unit, endoscopy and sterile process distribution.
Roberts came to Banner Thunderbird from Scottsdale Healthcare, where she was the clinical director of perioperative services. She has an associate’s degree in nursing and a bachelor of science degree in applied management. She is pursuing a master’s in health care administration.
Banner Thunderbird Medical Center is at 5555 W. Thunderbird Road in Glendale.

Midwestern University announced the appointment of July L. Finney, M.D., FACC, as director of cardiology for the department of medicine in its Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Finney received her medical degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in 1979, completed a residency and cardiology fellowship at Michigan State University and received additional training in cardiac catheterization and angioplasty at University of Michigan.
She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha and is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology.
Midwestern University is a graduate degree-granting institution specializing in the health sciences, with six colleges and two campuses.
The Arizona campus, on a 144-acre site in Glendale, is home to 1,536 full-time students and four colleges.
