ENOUGH ALREADY! Valley sets new high-temp mark

Daily News-Sun

It doesn't quite feel like November yet, not during the day anyway.

Record-breaking temperatures hit the Valley Tuesday, with temperatures at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport hitting 96 degrees, topping the previous record high of 94 degrees set in 1931.

Mike Bruce, a meteorologist at the Phoenix office of the National Weather Service, said highs in the far East Valley hit 98 degrees.

Bruce attributed the unusually hot weather to a ridge of high pressure in the upper atmosphere in Arizona and in the Southwest.

Don't expect much respite today. The National Weather Service expects the high to reach 93 degrees. But after that, some relief is on the way. Thursday, the forecast calls for 91 degrees, and then there'll be a slow cooling down through the rest of the week, with highs in the mid-80s. Next week could stay in the 70s, Bruce said.
