The Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex will serve as the official host site for an upcoming quarterfinal round Fed Cup match on Feb. 7-8.
The 2009 Fed Cup match has the women's United States Fed Cup Team scheduled to play the Argentinean Fed Cup Team. The Fed Cup, equivalent to the men's Davis Cup, is the premier competition in women's tennis. The USTA administers and sponsors the United States Fed Cup Team.
"I am really excited for the city of Surprise and its residents that quality professional tennis is coming to Surprise once again," said Surprise Mayor Lyn Truitt. "This international recognition shows that Surprise is growing and becoming a major player in Arizona."
"This is a tremendous honor for the city of Surprise, the state of Arizona and the southwest United States" said Community and Recreation Services Director Mark Coronado. "We competed with some outstanding facilities across the country for the opportunity to host the ITF Fed Cup and look forward to presenting exciting professional tennis on the international stage featuring the United States and Argentina."
In 2009, the city will host two USTA League National Championships, USTA National Campus Championships and the USTA Women's 25K Pro Circuit.
