The higher your credit score, the better your chances of securing credit and obtaining low-rate interest loans. Learn about that and more at the next "Understanding Your Credit Score" Financial Fitness Class from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Aug. 7.

Surprise, in partnership with Credit Union West, offers this class free to residents and employees. This course, one of several courses presented that will address the issue of personal credit, will focus on what makes up a credit score and provide ideas for how people can improve their scores. Included in this session will be discussion of fraud prevention and detection.

In addition to saving money on loan interest, a high credit score can also help lower insurance premiums and utility deposits. And did you know that one late payment can raise the interest you pay on all credit card accounts?

The class will be at the Community Initiatives building, 15832 N. Hollyhock St. Light refreshments will be served. Class size is limited, so register by calling 623-222-1651.
