The U.S. Census Bureau is looking for people to help conduct the 2010 Census, which will update important demographics information. Employee testing begins this week in Surprise.

These temporary, part-time paid positions will require various skill sets, including census takers, crew leaders and census clerks. Some positions will require employees to visit homes and apartment dwellings to verify locations of housing units and the numbers of those living inside to ensure an accurate count.

Local positions start at $15 an hour, and reimbursment for authorized mileage and related expenses.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and a U.S. citizen. Applicants are required to take a written test of basic skills and pass a security check.

Census staff will be conducting testing at two Surprise locations on Thursday. Testing will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the Sierra Montana Recreation Center, 14861 N. Spring Lane, and at 3 p.m. at the Surprise Community Center, 15832 N. Hollyhock St.
