Bell Road Reconstruction "brakes" for Tennis Tourney in Surprise

Surprise is serving up some good traffic news for those coming to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America Tennis Championships, Nov. 5-9: All road work associated with the Bell Road reconstruction will be halted.

In fact, most of the major work is now complete for phases 2 and 3 of the Bell Road reconstruction. All that remains are final touch ups and cleanup. So after the tournament, drivers may see temporary traffic restrictions as the final touch-ups are completed.

Phases 2 and 3 of the $5.6 million Bell Road Reconstruction Project included the reconstruction of the westbound lanes of Bell from Parkview to just east of Loop 303, using rubberized asphalt. The eastbound lanes of Bell from Parkview to Grand were also reconstructed using standard asphalt concrete. This work will extend the pavement's life by at least another 20 years.

Other portions of the project included a the installation of a new Arizona American water line to serve those in the area; a large multi-conduit duct bank was placed underground along Bell, so that APS can install lines to meet future power needs at the City Center, the future home to the new City Hall.

Other components of phases 2 and 3 include the addition of dual left turn lanes from Bell onto Reems and drainage improvements there.

Motorists will also see an updated traffic signal installation at Bell and Reems that will replace the existing one, and a new signal is planned at Bell and Sarival.

Motorists also will see an additional left turn lane on westbound Bell at 133^rd Avenue, that provides improved access to businesses in the area.
