Open houses provide Beardsley Road update

Daily News-Sun

Residents following the progress of the project that will connect Beardsley Road to Loop 101 will have two opportunities to get an update, as two community meetings will take place later this month.

Representatives from Peoria, Glendale and the Arizona Department of Transportation will have open houses at Sunrise Mountain High School in Peoria May 28, and the Community Church of Joy Worship Center June 3. Both meetings will be from 6 to 8 p.m.

Officials will provide project specifics, a computer-generated rendering of the roadway and the schedule for design and construction. Construction is scheduled to begin this fall.

The project will extend Beardsley Road across New River to a new frontage road along southbound Loop 101. Southbound vehicles will be able to merge onto the loop south of Union Hills Drive, while northbound motorists will cross Arizona's first U-turn bridge to a northbound entrance ramp.

Another feature of the project will be a roundabout at Beardsley Road and 81st Avenue.

In addition, Union Hills will be widened at the Loop 101 interchange; Beardsley will be widened between 83rd and 81st avenues; Lake Pleasant Parkway will be widened north of Beardsley; and a raised median will be constructed on 83rd Avenue south of Beardsley.

Sunrise Mountain High School is at 21200 N. 83rd Ave.; the Community Church of Joy is at 21000 N. 75th Ave.
